It's Official!

Band WILL start in 4th Grade at Village School! I have to say I am really excited!

Students at Village school as well as GMS will come with their homerooms or houses to their half hour lesson. This might be a tad challenging since I have balked at teaching mixed instruments how to play their instrument but with the lesson book I use there are 2 pieces of technology that Im hoping will really be a big help. There is a DVD and a CD accompaniment that demonstrates a good sound and Im hoping thats going to help with some of the confusion especially in the beginning!

My real hope is to have a consistant program for Village kids with 2 years under their belts and instill a positive performing experience so that when it comes time for them to jump into middle school it's a no brainer. My long term goal is to next year have a real Village school band again and they can have a real rehearsal time as well as their weekly lessons. We had our rehearsals before school started 4 years ago and it seemed to really work well.

Open house for Village kids is going to be October 7th. Look for the information sheet to come home in the next 3 weeks. Please feel free to contact me at school. My number and email is on the GMS websight.

Welcome Back!!!!!

We are hitting the ground running with the fundraiser for our 6 Flags trip! There will be an informational meeting the night of open house, Thursday September 4th at 7:15 in the Auditorium. Tracy Wheeler has checked with bussing and we have some basic figures and date to let you know about!

Next Wednesday, September 3rd will be our first band class for the kids. 11:15 to 12:15. Students eat the first lunch which starts at 10:50. 7th and 8th graders may bring their lunches to the band room.

Just as an FYI, in order to miss the least ammount of core class time instrument group lessons are going to be during the kido's Allied Arts. Their lesson time will be the same every week.

Feel free to email me or call! kimma@gorhamschools.org or 222-1374 is directly into my room!

End of the Year!

ok
I've been reminded by the kids I havnt updated this in too long so here's whats coming!

Tonight our concert starts officially at 7:00. I have also passed out the 2 pieces the beginners are playing and asked the middle school kids to help out. I know this puts a strain on some of you but if possible the 5th graders will love the support and it's such a thrill for them to play with the big kids and have them there. If the GMS kids could be here by 5:15 that would be great!
If GMS students are coming only for our concert please be here by 6:45. Jazz Band will start the program. Concert Band and Wind Ensemble to follow. Short and sweet. Dress tonight is nice clothes. They dont have to wear black and white.

Next week is the solo concert starting at 5:30. Thats June 10th!

Jazz Band is playing at 8th Grade graduation here on the 19th. I dont have the details on that yet...I think it starts at 6:00

What a fantastic year we've had. Just as an fyi for all the 8th graders. Our High School Band will travel to Gettysburg and Hershey park next year in May. More details to come on that soon!

6 Flags! 9 days and counting

9 Days not including today or Sat the 10th! The kids are so excited! Im excited too! I love Roller Coasters especially the ones where your feet dangle!

ok
Hopefully you all got the email I sent out this morning with all the specifics but here's the condensed version.

Meet here at 4:45 am...yes really...we are expected to arrive at 9:00 am in Agawam and I want to make sure we have time to get organized and focused. This is a competition as well. We will spend the afternoon in the park and meet for the awards ceremony at 5:30. I,m anticipating return around 10-10:30 back at school. Please be here or have someone here to pick up your child. They will surely be exhausted and I have a horse show sunday morning early so I really need to get to bed...again...and get up early.

They need money for food and snacks. They should bring snacks to munch on on the bus.
They can bring I pods and gameboys....they can not bring their lap tops from school. We are taking coach busses so there will be plenty of room for storage.

They need to get here dressed to perform and bring a change of clothes for the park. 10 day forcast for Agawam is sunny afternoon with the high of 76! The water rides are not going to be open so no need for bathing suits....
Check your inboxes for the rules and expectations..check spam folders too!
Call or email me if you have any questions!
